How to connect WhatsApp
WhatsApp is connected by linking your existing WhatsApp number — similar to how WhatsApp Web works on a computer. You will need access to the phone with your WhatsApp number during setup.
Important notes before you start
- You need a dedicated WhatsApp number for your business. Do not use your personal number.
- The number must already have WhatsApp installed and active on a phone.
- Once linked, that number will be used by OpenClaw to send and receive messages.
Step 1 — Save your number in the dashboard
- Open your OpenClaw configuration dashboard.
- Click Communication Channels to expand it.
- Click WhatsApp to expand it.
- Enter your WhatsApp number in international format, e.g.
+37060000000 - Click Save Number.
Step 2 — Scan the QR code in OpenClaw
- After saving, click the Open OpenClaw → button that appears.
- In the OpenClaw control panel, go to Channels → WhatsApp.
- Click Show QR.
- On your phone, open WhatsApp and go to: ⋮ (three dots) → Linked Devices → Link a Device.
- Scan the QR code shown on screen. You have about 60 seconds before it expires.
Step 3 — Confirm the link
Once scanned, your phone will show the device as linked. Return to your configuration dashboard — the WhatsApp badge will update to Connected automatically within a few seconds.
Pricing
This method uses the WhatsApp Web protocol and is free. It is suitable for small to medium business volumes. For high-volume enterprise use, consider the official WhatsApp Business API instead.
